Notes |
Best vineyards and wines. Vineyards are planted on the tall, very steep slopes of the rivers. Some vineyards are on north facing slopes to reduce direct sunlight. Narrow terraces are called socalocs.
Douro DOC (Port) notes: Known for its Port wines. Stretches form the Marao Mountains (higher elevation) to the border of Spain. Steep slopes; challenging to manage.
Grapes in this region are boated down the Douro River to its mouth at the Atlantic. There they are either made into Port wine in Porto on the north bank or Vila Nova de Gaia on the south bank. |
